[08:44:00] <rogue_cheddar> Hello everyone, I'm trying to install arch32 on a machine, but it hangs after showing the login prompt
[08:45:16] <rogue_cheddar> I was able to install it some time ago on the same machine, but after this same problem started I went distro hopping for a bit
[08:45:43] <rogue_cheddar> I thought that a fresh install would do the trick but it seems not. Any ideas?

[09:28:47] <abaumann> Which login prompt, a display manager or the text login prompt?
[09:28:58] <abaumann> ah, from the ISO?
[09:30:00] <abaumann> and which ISO did you take, archlinux32-2021.04.06-i686.iso?
[09:33:15] <abaumann> mmh, just tested, I get to the archiso prompt with a cow :-)
[09:35:21] <abaumann> the guided install is for EFI only at the moment.
[09:36:28] <abaumann> the iso has no login prompt, it starts a root zsh immediately after booting..

[11:53:36] <buildmaster> i686/gnome-initial-setup is broken (says nlopc46): https://archlinux32.org
[12:38:03] <oaken-source> Hi, may I ask, how much effort is maintaining archlinux32? just considering the core game of making sure the distro works and stays reasonably up to date with upstream arch? I assume much of it is automated, but I'm trying to get a feeling for how much effort it would be to add an architecture to parabola that is not covered by any flavour of archlinux.
[12:46:03] -!- Nact has quit [Quit: Konversation terminated!]
[13:27:46] <abaumann> hi oaken-source: most is automated, currently I'm investing quite some time in i486, when that's finished the main effort is to adapt packages..
[13:27:53] <abaumann> ..I would say some hours a week.
[13:27:59] <abaumann> But I don't really count. :-)
[13:28:37] <oaken-source> thanks :)
[13:28:38] <abaumann> There are far more packages and problems than I can fix, especially if the bugs have to be done upstream in the original software.
[13:28:50] <abaumann> how's you risc-v going, btw?
[13:59:32] <buildmaster> i486/gst-plugins-base is broken (says eurobuild6-8-i486): https://archlinux32.org
[14:05:10] <oaken-source> abaumann: I've managed to get some hardware now, and it's booting. now the real work starts
[14:05:45] <oaken-source> that's primarily why I'm here, I wanted to gauge whether it's feasible to do this on my own
[14:20:07] <abaumann> you can focus on the bare minimum packages and maybe one simple desktop. lot's of trouble are caused (sorry to say that) by rust, firefox, gnome, and friends.
[14:23:52] <oaken-source> last time I worked on riscv, llvm wasn't ported yet :|
[14:24:05] <oaken-source> but you're right, I think that's a good approach.
[14:24:09] <oaken-source> thanks

[16:50:25] <Cif> @486 ArchLinux32: Made a 486 system, using the 686 ISO, set arch to i486, pactrapped.. now playing back the image onto the 486 currently..
[16:50:58] <Cif> worked fine in the VM beforehand.. so should do so also on the real hardware..
[16:51:14] <deep42thought> did you disable kvm?
[16:51:24] <Cif> kvm? oo*
[16:51:36] <deep42thought> if not, y86_64 commands are executable in the vm, too

[16:51:51] <deep42thought> no problem
