[09:17:26] <solskogen|M> Antiz: You didn't want to look at my MR for aarch64-linux-gnu-binutils first? :-)

[10:26:05] <Antiz> solskogen|M: Sry, I missed it.
[10:28:22] -!- Daanct12 has quit [Quit: WeeChat 4.9.0]
[10:29:38] <Antiz> solskogen|M: What's the need of switching to git here?
[10:30:06] <solskogen|M> because that's what binutils does
[10:30:17] <Antiz> solskogen|M: Usually I'd be fine with that, but if it implies pointing to an "arbitrary" commit then I'm not found of that
[10:30:35] <Antiz> It breaks version tracking and tooling automation
[10:31:45] <Antiz> HUmm yeah, that's what binutils does but IMO it shouldn't :P
[10:32:13] <Antiz> Although, I'm not aware of intricacies
[10:32:46] <solskogen|M> I was just trying to reconcile them :-)
[10:33:58] <Antiz> solskogen|M: I don't intend to maintain those packages on the long run. I've just been pinged about updating them. So I'm not sure I wanna take such a "big" design change decision.
[10:37:59] <Antiz> solskogen|M: Also, what's the need for the "binutils-build" dir and the "ln -s binutils-${pkgver} binutils-gdb" dance?
[10:41:47] <Antiz> Also, I don't fully understand the need behind the sysroot change (same for e.g. aarch64-linux-gnu-linux-api-headers)
[10:41:50] <Antiz> Can you enlighten me?
[10:41:59] <Antiz> I'm not familiar with those packages

[10:51:22] -!- TheDcoder has joined #archlinux-ports
[10:51:44] <Antiz> I'm happy to merge a few stuff while I'm at it my aim is really just to bump them (as I've been asked), which already turns out to be more involved than anticipated 😅. To be completely honest,I'm not really interested in spending time figuring out stuff or applying big changes here. I'd prefer to leave that to the actual maintain of the
[10:51:44] <Antiz> packages.
[11:02:39] <Antiz> I don't think it'd be appreciated that I apply such a fair amount of restructuring across all 4 packages while I'm not the actual maintainer for them. I pinged the maintainer about it, hopefully he'll review those soon ;)

[12:09:24] <Charon77> Question about PKGBUILD in extras.
[12:09:24] <Charon77> There's a package that has since been marked as archived on github, but it's a dependency by ~30 packages, and the latest tagged release has a failing test.
[12:09:24] <Charon77>
[12:09:24] <Charon77> Would it be acceptable if I update the PKGBUILD to latest commit on master? (dated Mar 2025) since it resolves the building issue, and I doubt there's gonna be more commits anyway
[12:23:41] <solskogen|M> Antiz: I have no idea. That's just how native binutils is built. Personally I would not do it like so (but a separate build directory is recommended by upstream)
[12:24:57] <solskogen|M> Antiz: In my mind a sysroot should only contain headers and libraries for the target. The way aarch64-linux-gnu-binutils does it (before my change), is that some of the stuff from binutils pollutes the sysroot with things that is supposed to be run on the host.
[12:25:57] <solskogen|M> Charon77: which package is this?
[12:26:41] <Charon77> google-glog
[12:26:42] <solskogen|M> Antiz: Totally understandable. I'd love to have a chat with Anatol about it :-)
[12:30:09] <Charon77> Right now if I want to make current version work, I'd have to use `-DWITH_TLS=OFF`
[12:30:15] <Charon77> but `master` would've work unmodified
[12:31:16] <solskogen|M> hm, that build fine without modifications last time I checked (30 Mar 2026)
[12:31:21] <solskogen|M> s/build/build

[14:57:45] <Charon77> I'm trying to build blender. We're missing llvm21, could you try seeing if it builds? It should build without modification
[15:09:39] <bschnei> sure
